An introduction to FLAG emissions: why they matter for your business today

As businesses face growing regulatory and stakeholder pressure to disclose and reduce their environmental impact, FLAG emissions—those from Forestry, Land Use, and Agriculture—are emerging as a critical focus area. Accounting for over 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, FLAG represents both a major contributor to climate change and a powerful lever for carbon reduction.
However, measuring and monitoring FLAG emissions poses unique challenges. Up until recently, most methodologies were designed for industrial and service sectors, leaving a gap in frameworks tailored to the complexities of land-based activities. With the potential not only to reduce emissions but also to unlock natural carbon removals, FLAG emissions must be accurately tracked to fully realise its climate impact.
We are inviting Tim Croker, Head of Carbon Accounting at Climatiq, the provider of carbon insights and emissions data, to give an introductory session on FLAG emissions on the 26th June at 3pm BST / 10am ET.
Tim has worked in carbon accounting and sustainability more broadly since 2007. He spent 10 years honing his skills at the Royal Household where he developed FLAG accounting for use on the Duchy Home Farm. With the consultancy Anthesis Tim created a FLAG accounting tool for local authorities and helped many companies set science-based targets. He is now head of Carbon Accounting at Climatiq where he enjoys building his knowledge into accounting tools that can be used at scale. In his earlier life Tim was an economist and Fellow Chartered Accountant.
